There are many social media websites and apps people use today.  According to Hashmeta, 46.2% of Singaporeans first research product reviews, user experiences, and comments through social media, such as Facebook.

Will links from Social Media sites give my site a jump in rankings?

Social Links May or May Not boost your search engine rankings.

In 2014, Matt Cutts from Google explained in a video that

“Facebook and Twitter pages are treated like any other pages in our web index so if something occurs on Twitter or occurs on Facebook and we’re able to crawl it, then we can return that in our search results. But as far as doing special specific work to sort of say “you have this many followers on Twitter or this many likes on Facebook”, to the best of my knowledge we don’t currently have any signals like that in our web search ranking algorithms. ”

However, while the authority of a social media account doesn’t impact search rank, this doesn’t mean that links published on social media cannot be marked as credible back-links and thus influence a page’s search rank.

In fact, many internet marketers believe that links to your website via social media accounts do have a significant impact on your search rankings.

We do agree with the increasing influence of social media, social media links would be part of an entire tapestry of natural link diversity that Google looks out for.
