PROJECT: NHB Usability Design & Platform Development

CLIENT: National Heritage Board

Overview

National Heritage Board (NHB) is a statutory board of the Singapore Government, under the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA}. The Museum Roundtable (MR) is an initiative led by the National Heritage Board (NHB) and consists of more than 50 member museums in Singapore. MR members cover themes ranging from art, culture, history, science and innovation, healthcare, lifestyle to defence and community.

Situation

www.museums.com.sg was launched in 2006 as a funnel site to direct traffic to their various member museum websites. Changing business realities have made the site inadequate to meet their strategic objectives. NHB required a revamp of their existing website, with an emphasis towards user-friendliness. In addition, NHB also required a members-only login area where members download the latest event images as well as documents.

Solution

The proposed www.museums.com.sg was designed and developed using a mix of interactive flash, AJAX, and HTML. Designed using neuro-visual mapping techniques, these allowed visitors to easily form mental sitemaps of the content of the entire website at a single glance. Information was organized visually and contextually with the most frequently used task being centrally located. Important areas like the announcement banner were optimized at 85th percentile eye level.
