Overview

To validate the viability and acceptability of the concept of sgCarMart, Conversion Hub consultants conducted focus groups, surveys and usability studies before constructing a pilot platform in which 200 people were invited to participate. The pilot was conducted over the web via a secure server hosted by Conversion Hub. The infrastructure is similar to the one Conversion Hub deploys for MNCs and other government agencies, where 100% scalability and reliability is key. A high level of participation (over 80%) was achieved in the pilot and some excellent ideas were generated. The experience was widely welcomed and the enthusiastic support of participants positioned them as Singapore No.1 Car Portal.

To put the success of the car portal into perspective, the Alexa Traffic Rank {Singapore) exceeds that of ebay.com, nus.edu.sg, straitstimes.com, bbc.co.uk, Friendster.com and millions of other websites. Page views per user is greater than the Top 3 Government websites, namely iras.gov.sg, cpf.gov.sg and hdb.gov.sg all combined together and the Car Forum has more than 2,039,384 posts by members which far exceed that of all government social engagement projects combined!

Situation

Creating a scalable used car portal forum that could service an entire nation required in-depth technical knowledge and cultural communications expertise. sgCarMart wanted a virtual environment in which the casual car owners and car enthusiast could engage freely with each other in a free and open forum, structured to provide ease of access and deliver maximum value.
